The story of Onam

A homecoming, served on a leaf

Onam is Kerala's biggest harvest festival — ten days of flower carpets (Pookalam), boat races and family gatherings that mark the mythical homecoming of King Mahabali. At its heart sits the Onasadya: a grand vegetarian banquet of curries, pickles and payasam, served in a precise order across a fresh banana leaf.

This August, Chilli India brings that Onasadya to Docklands and Epping — the same spread served in Kerala homes, unhurried, fully vegetarian, and eaten the traditional way.

How it's served

Every dish, in its place

The Onasadya follows a traditional serving order — pickles and Inji Puli first for the palate, then rice with curries poured left to right, papadam and banana on the side, and payasam to finish. Every leaf is laid the same way our families back home would lay it.

  • Fresh banana leaf, laid with the stem to your left
  • 23+ dishes — mains, sides, pickles & payasam
  • Fully vegetarian, cooked fresh for the two-day event
  • Sat 22 & Sun 23 August, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM only
